Looking for the Goshawk. Conor Mark Jameson,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Looking for the Goshawk (Hardcover)
I first noticed Conor Jameson's lyrical writing in Birds Magazine. It was always the first column I would read when it arrived through my letterbox. On the strength of those columns, I bought his previous book "Silent Spring Revisited" which is excellent.
So when "Looking for the Goshawk" came out, I ordered it straight away. I was not disappointed. I was enthralled by the time I had finished the first page.
There is something very special about Jameson's writing style. He not only conveys his complete passion for his subject; in this case, the enigmatic bird of prey, the Goshawk, but in this book the reader is taken on an adventure to find it. There is disappointment along the way as well as elation. They are not easy birds to find.
Jameson's intensely creative prose is balanced perfectly by great attention to detail and backed up by well researched scientific data. He is that rare breed of writer who can get away splendidly with deeply creative prose, at times poetic, and at the same time engaging the reader with superbly detailed observation.
Conor Jameson is a weaver of words that will touch the heart & imagination of anyone who loves the natural world.
His enthusiasm spills off every page. So much so, that for me, no walk in wild places will ever be quite the same again. I shall be searching the skies, looking for signs in the hope that I might find the hunting bird of ancient Kings.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone who has even the vaguest interest in wildlife, especially birds.
