A monster has called.,
This review is from: A Monster Calls (non illustrated) (Paperback)
My sister has only a few weeks left as a result of cancer, she has 11 year old twins, an 18 and a 21 year old. I bought this to see whether it would be useful or even appropriate for the twins as they had not then been told how seriously ill my sister is.
I found it very difficult to read at 50, and am man enough to say that I had to keep stopping, once leaving it for 4 days, as I found it too emotional. I am angry at how my sisters illness has progressed, frustrated by having to drag information out of those that know, scared for what is coming soon, and worried how it will impact on the children.
I understand the message about having to let go, but I think it is a book for the future where the children are concerned, it would be too harrowing for them at the present time.
This said, I think it will prove to be a valuable book in the arsenal for anyone that has to deal with personally, or help those that help the ones left behind to deal with their grief.
