Soothing and sombre classical programme,
This review is from: Lachrymae - Music For Strings (Audio CD)
This album is rather like a "Classical Chill Out", except that the compositions are here in full, rather than only the "best bits". If classical compilation cut-up albums were pop songs, they would be a collection of guitar riffs, drum solos, choruses and so on. The full compositions offer so much more, and here the performances are extremely moving, and they all fit together seamlessly in a programme that spans 350 years of music.
Those who were moved by the use of Arvo Pärt's music in the 9/11 scenes of Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 will find a beautiful version of it here.
