This review is from: IMAX - Greece - Secrets Of The Past [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Yes, OK, it's a very short trip to Greece, and only covers the island of Santorini and the Parthenon in Athens. Nevertheless, what's on show here is nothing short of spectacular - from the beautiful aerial view of Santorini to the magnificent CGI reconstruction of the Temple of Athena, better known as the Acropolis, in Athens. Having been there and personally photographed the Acropolis in 8mm many years ago, I was thrilled to see what today's ruins actually amounted to when ancient Temple of Athena was built. This is well worth the cost of the disc alone, albeit with only about a couple of minutes devoted to the CGI reconstruction.
The first half of the disc includes a somewhat potted history of Santorini, with a number of breathtaking aerial shots of that beautiful island, and some impressive volcanic CGI effects to boot. It is a marvel to behold in blu ray when projected onto a large screen, as indeed it must have been when originally shown in an Imax theatre. I don't know if watching it on a TV amounts to the same experience, so my comments only really apply when seen via a projector. That said, this is a real treat for the eyes, and would deserve 5 stars if only there had been a little more content.
