Andrea at Portofino,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Love In Portofino (Audio CD)
I have been to 4 of his concerts and I own all of his CD's and DVD's and I couldn't wait to get this one - what a disappointment! Some of the sound quality is so bad that I thought the actual disc was faulty and I was prepared to return it! And let's face it Andrea is not meant to croon - especially in English. It sounded as if he was trying to emulate Elvis or Perry Como and not succeeding very well. I wish he would stick with what he is best at - classical songs and opera!

For any other singer of operatic songs (including opera singers/actors like Luciano and singers of classical songs like Katherine Jenkins) I would agree with you - stick to the classics. However, Andrea is the only classical singer ever, in my opinion, who can also handle modern songs. Well, not the ones in the charts, written by 10 year olds, for ten year olds - but the classic ballads as sung by Sinatra etc. I think he does it excellently. I guess it is all personal choice.
