This review is from: Untouchable [DVD] (2011) (DVD)
The film, "Intouchables," is a superb French comedy, racy, challenging and hilarious. It has also done a great PR job on behalf of both the disabled and the marginalised. This edition, "Untouchable", has been subtitled and re-edited for the American market, which means that the language often jars and the structure of the film has been altered, dumbing it down for a trans-atlantic audience. The climax of the comedy (there is a romantic interest which has its own climax) has been transposed to the beginning, presumably to grab a less sophisticated audience with a shorter concentration span. This is a shame. If you have any French at all go for the French version, even if it costs a few pounds more and use the subtitles for the deaf. At least then you will be seeing the film as it was intended to be seen.

What has been changed from the original? The beginning on my disc is the car chase in the Maserati. I speak French but buying this disc from amazon.fr is expensive :(

Thanks for the warning. Amazon mix up reviews. The one I want to purchase is of a PAL format, which wouldn't work in the States. Is there yet another version in NSTC(?) floating around? Unfortunately, the French version does not have English subtitles.

Has "Untouchable" been dubbed into ENglish, or is it still in French with English subtitles?

Has "Untouchable" been dubbed into English, or is it still in French with English subtitles? I ordered the French version "Intouchables" but I don't think there are any subtitles - it's meant to be a gift for someone who doesn't speak French, and I may have made a big mistake.

The French version has no English subtitles or dubbing. Sorry. Check the screen - I am sure there is a note - just for a double check. The English version (I hope) is French speaking and English subtitles - as it was in the cinema when I saw it.

Thanks. Cd do with a lot more description on the website, to make it much more clear. I have a year-old copy of the French version, which was sent out to BAFTA members including my husband, and it had English subtitles. I thought it would be an ideal gift for someone, so naturally thought that a copy with the same cover would be the same. I just hope the English version is not dubbed; I couldn't find any of these necessary details in the sales pitch.

The version I bought - this one I think - doesn't have a romance at the start. Starts with the car chase. French with English subtitles.

I originally saw the French version which had English subtitles, a copy sent by BAFTA for judging. It started with the speeding car and ended, I think, with the hero in a restaurant meeting his lady for the first time. I liked the film so much I bought it for a friend as a gift. I mistakenly bought the French version assuming it would have subtitles as the cover is the same as the copy I already have. I then had to buy the English version, and am relieved that it has subtitles and hasn 't been dubbed. Great film, isn't it?
