This review is from: Dolly: A Ghost Story (The Susan Hill Collection) (Hardcover)
Just read this book, having previously enjoyed Susan Hill's writing. Like other readers, I was disappointed. It felt like a good short story stretched out into a mediocre novel.
What really annoyed me was a major plot flaw that should have been spotted. The order of the sisters' births has been switched between the beginning of the book (Dora older) and the end (Violet older than Dora). As this has a real bearing on how the protagonists act, I feel very annoyed that this was not spotted during editing. It really bugged me, at a point where the story should have been sweeping me along.
3/5 for the writing, 1/5 for editing. Could do better.
(Can do better - A Kind Man is an awesomely good book.)
