Resistance Series complete?,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Resistance 3 (PS3) (Video Game)I have to say, after completing this game I feel it was a step down from the last game. The story in Campaign mode felt very undercooked and the ending seemed very rushed. I was sitting thinking, so what happens now? Are the Chimera finally defeated? Also, I didn't find the game as challenging and there weren't as many bosses to fight, nor were the levels anything that we hadn't already seen in the first or second game. Did anybody find the game to be fairly short or is that just me? I also found myself missing Nathan Hale, Capelli just wasn't as interesting for me.
The online gameplay is not bad from what I've seen so far but I miss the 8 player co-op mission mode they had in the second game, I spent hours at that sucker!
Now to the positives: The graphics are fantastic and the sound is very good also. I like the addition of upgrading your weapons and I like that they have brought the weapon wheel back from the first game.
For me, the order of the Resistance games in terms of enjoyment and playability are as follows:
Resistance: Fall Of Man

I agree; after the Chimera were so built up over the last couple of games I was hoping for a little more resolution than this. I appreciate that they were trying to make the journey more personal to Capelli, but considering the whole world was overrun I would have liked a bit more of an ending and conclusion.

To be fair, the best level was probably the prison level, which was unlike anything from the previous Resistance games, and I thought pretty unique and original for FPSs as a whole really.
I think I completed it in about 7.5 hours so I would agree it felt a little short - especially since Insomniac had 3 years to work on it and I hoped/thought they were going to come out with a cracker. Although campaign co-op is always a welcome inclusion, I too missed the co-op mode from Resistance 2 -- I didn't think it was perfect, but brought back with a bit more finesse and balance and it would have been a brilliant feature IMO.
Anyway, I did enjoy R3 and I would definitely recommend it to FPS fans who want something different to BF3 and MW3, but it was a solid yet unspectacular 7/10 for me.

Hugh Finnegan says:
Yeah I guess you are right about the prison level, that was unique amongst the trilogy but felt a little out of place for me!
For me, the first game introduced you to Hale and the Chimera and the second showed the true scale of the invasion (giant battle-cruisers, nasty beasts the size of skyscrapers, etc). In the third, I was expecting even nastier enemies but it seemed to go the opposite direction.
Once more I'll mention the 8-Player co-op, that added on hours of playability for me.
Don't get me wrong, the third was still enjoyable. Resistance Series has always been one of my favourite for PS3. I hope the series continues but I hear Insomniac want to move away from it.
