1.0 out of 5 stars The Saint it Ain't, 4 Dec. 2012

This review is from: CAPTURE THE SAINT (The Saint Series Book 53) (Kindle Edition)
Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear. What a let down. Having read all the Charteris Saint books and a good many of the "attributed to" versions I was expecting great things from Burl Barer. I suppose I was over expectant but as I went to the same school as Charteris and having met him a number of times I do not feel he would have been pleased with this rendition. It is so obviously Americanised and the writing is so stilted. Basically he meets a lady who was rescued by him years earlier and off they go on the most improbable series of situations. Then the writer brings back Roger and Peter but leaves out Pat Holm and he breaks the Saint's code that he abhored guns and always carried his little throwing knife. But the final nail in this coffin was when he gets the Saint to make a molotov cocktail with wine and sherry. Dur er hello wine and sherry are not flamable.
Leslie would turn over in his grave if he knew. If you are a Saint fan give this one a miss. Look out for the sign of the Saint - but this time he will not be back.

Aha -- you caught the cocktail recipe! The only recipe in the book that is accurate is the one for methamphetamine. The intention of the juxtaposition of those two was meant to amuse you...much as the Saint removing the knife from sleeve with his toes while hanging by his wrists. Some things are not to be taken literally. While you didn't enjoy that adventure, I hope you enjoy the next one.
