Grandiose and gorgeous,
This review is from: Ringleader Of The Tormentors (Audio CD)
Rome has been a significant influence on Morrissey in Ringleader Of The Tormentors, from the Ennio Morricone scored Dear God, Please Help Me, to the constant featuring of an Italian children's choir, finishing in one of his most stark album sleeves, Ringleader Of The Tormentors is drenched in grand sounds and operatic vocals. While there are few stand out singles and two songs coming in at a heavyweight 5.52 and 7.22 respectively, the album has a coherent structure, culminating in a rare semi optimistic declaration in album closer At Last I Am Born. Constantly flitting between life and death, pausing to declare life a pigsty on track 7, Ringleader Of The Tormentors finds Morrissey in theatrical form.
