This writing by Aitkin seemed to annoy me right from the start. It was difficult to believe anything he said making it a very shallow book and boring too. It is a book that is only about himself, what he said and how he responded to the inevitable repercussions of a powerful then cross man who has been found out. The characters around him obviously make such little impression on him that he can barely describe them. I am afraid I had to skim read to get to the end. We were reading this book for our book club so I will be fascinated to see how other view this book. The only comment I can make is that perhaps we learn that power can corrupt.
