Massively flawed and an obvious port from a console,

This review is from: Far Cry 3 (PC DVD) (CD-ROM)
Were you impressed by the graphics of the original Far Cry, way back in 2004? So were we here at Ubisoft! That's why we decided to keep them *exactly* the same in Far Cry 3.
Do you want to save on heating bills? No problem! The abysmal coding in Far Cry 3 will max out your graphics card and make it hot enough to heat your house, dry your hair, fry an egg and maybe even do a bit of welding! How cool is that???
Have you ever wondered what it's like to be severely mobility impaired? With Far Cry 3, wonder no more! You'll be unable to walk up inclines steeper than 10 degrees, unable to step over rocks higher than a kerbstone, and our 'brittle bone' simulator will kill you every time you fall eight feet down a gentle grassy slope!
Have you ever fancied drunk driving but been unable to summon the nerve? Fret no more! Our 'eleven pint' driving simulator will turn you into a lead-footed, heavy-handed maniac! And it's not just your car that will crash - we've managed to crash the WHOLE GAME every hour so!
Do you miss the 80s? We mean really, really miss them? Well, just for you, we've created an in-game menu system that recalls the good old days of clunky unintuitive menus and scrappy little pictures that might be a leaf, or a pile of washing, or a Jeep, or a bumble bee with a bad case of the shakes. AND we've thrown in some wildly implausible restrictions. Want to carry 27 buffalo hides all at once? You can! Want to carry 27 leaves all at once? You can! Want to carry 28 leaves all at once? Sorry, your rucksack is full.
Here at Ubisoft, we know how much you like video games. You just want to play and play and play. That's why we disabled save games and went instead for autosaves at checkpoints. But here's the genius bit - the checkpoints are AGES apart! Like an hour or more! And if you die before you reach one, guess what? That's right - you go back to the village where you started, hundreds of miles away! And you have to plod back to where you were through all the respawned baddies! How awesome is THAT???
Far Cry 3 - it's sort of pants. If it's going for £5 or so, I'd say it's worth buying for your average FPS fan. In fairness, the scenery is quite pretty, the landscape is realistic, the lighting is nice (although characters have big dark blurry outlines in leiu of actual shadows - ugh) and it's a seriously big world to roam around in.
I'm being generous with three stars - it's sort of meh, rather than OK.
