Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I never owned a NHR v1 before because I heard about too many issues, so can't compare the 2 different versions of this, only against ALFA 036H and 036NH adapters.
As we all know, Alfa AWUS036H is known as the best of sensitive wifi hearing, it detect a lot of signals with full bar.
Alfa AWUS036NH is well known as the best of sending signal to the Router because of the high power, So I use a simple language like this......Alfa AWUS036H have a big ear & Alfa AWUS036NH have a big mouth so the router can hear the signal.
But this latest Release Alfa AWUS036NHR V2 have both of it! It has big ears and a big mouth, or it means it can hear well and also can shout well.
Please make sure you don't watch youtube, movies or download files from hotspots that are not yours because it may pull almost all the internet connection from the router/hotspot leaving others a damn slow internet connection.
The downside to this V2 model ? Provided drivers in the box actually and not really intended for any useful use under Linux.
Well the provided windows drivers on the CD in the sealed box didn't work for me right at all (all three of them on CD, well they did but all the signal strengths were completely stuffed up, although the device still functioned) and I had to download the special V2 driver from Alfa Network themselves to get the signal strengths acceptable, but since this V2 driver is dated 2011 and the latest drivers for NHR v1 are Dec 2013 what gives ? With a newer model I was expecting the newer driver on CD to work at least from August 2013 late model V2 NHR you would have thought...
Unlike the other ALFA adapters, this one revels and has significant improvement when you stick on the Alfa 9dbi Omni over the 5dbi included or using the 7dbi panel aswell, where as the other adapters the signal strengths can actually go worse with higher dbi twigs.
