Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: London 2012 Olympic Games [DVD] (DVD)
Having got this today (the release day) along with the Paralympic dvd London 2012 Paralympic Games [DVD] i must say i am very happy with the purchase. the opening ceremony can be watched with BBC Commentary (Huw Edwards etc) or Danny Boyle and Frank Cottrell ( director and writer). Both are worth listening to, especially the latter. also with the option of no commentary and just the stadium sound in 5.1. the day highlights are extremely well done and each day has an introduction from sue barker and each day contains the best sports of the day, including all 29 of GB's wins. The extras such as nimrod and isle of wonder deconstructed are interesting but they aren't that long, (2-3 mins each) and two out of the 4 opening ceremony special features are just pre-cereomony stuff. the closing ceremony is well done and edited. you can only watch it with BBC commentary though. you can't turn it off, which may be annoying for those of you who want to strangle the commentators when they speak over stuff you want to hear. Of course there are subtitles for highlights and both ceremony's for all options. The only down side for me is the DVD Menu title screen looks like it's been made from something like iDVD. which makes the finished product look slightly lazy. which is a shame because the content is fantastic. All in all this is a amazing buy for any olympic fanatic, sport fan, or for the person who just wants to treasure the memory of our olympic games in 2012. and i'm sure this dvd will be shown to the generations to come to relive the memory. Must buy DVD!!!!!! Comments

Mr. Luke E. Walker says:
Does it include some of the fantastic montages that the BBC made? There is one particular one that I hope is on there which is the one which shows clips of the torch relay, people winning and losing out on medals. It ends with Jessica Ennis crying on the podium with her medal and 'Manhatta' by the cinematic orchestra is playing in the background.

Hi Josh
can you tell me if the DVD contains Charlotte Dujardin winning gold medal routine in dressage (the horse that dances to 007 and dam busters etc. My mum has never seen it and still says she wishes she had, So I though a good present if it was on there. Thanks Sue

yes it does it's on disc three about 50 minutes in. it shows all 3 of Britians hopes and the other European who took silver. however it only includes about 15 seconds of the beginning of the routine and then 15 seconds at the end, including dujardin. this is annoying as it was a good routine. if you want it in full http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTOpW8GqNV

Thanks for an informative review and unlike some others you at least waited until the DVDs were released before you reviewed them!

I was going to buy this DVD from Amazon but in view of their tax dodging antics together with their fellow American cohorts Starbucks, I have gone elsewhere and will continue to do so until they show some decency and corporate responsibility towards the country where they generate millions of pounds annually, or is it billions.
Shame on you Amazon. Les Byrtus UK taxpayer.

Mr. B. Stevens says:
Good for you. I also support your position and have, for time first year, shopped for the majority of my Christmas 'stuff' in the High Street where they pay Tax, i.e John Lewis with as good, if not better Customer Service from actual people. So maybe Amazon has done us all a favour in getting us back to the shops?

So - I CAN turn off the appallingly condescending and irritating commentary by Huw Edwards and his team of like-minded wafflers for the opening ceremony - but not the closing ceremony? If that right?
Also, the 'stadium only soundtrack' - is that OK? I've been looking forwards to this DVD, but won't bother unless I can cut out Edwards. He was irritating beyond belief and would ruin enjoyment for me. Thank heavens someone uploaded a commentary-free film on Youtube.
