This review is from: Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara - Black (Personal Care)
I'm really surprised by the negative reviews - this really is the best mascara I have ever used (see updated note at the end), by quite a large margin - and I've tested quite a few! Perhaps it depends on initial lash thickness or style of application, but I've found that most waterproof mascaras are horrible and clumpy. This one applies very smoothly, and you can achieve a really natural effect. If you want a more dramatic effect, you can apply several coats to build up the length and thickness. Whereas most other mascaras I find start clumping after just one or two swipes with the brush, this one I typically apply 4-5 swipes and still no clumps at all. It is almost (but not quite) as good as the lash extensions I used to get (I stopped using these after developing an allergy to the adhesive, and have been searching for a mascara that is halfway decent ever since)
It has a small flaw in that it is not perfectly waterproof - I have had slight pandafication after a swim or vigorous exercise. But I'm still giving it 5 stars, as it is far and away the best mascara I have ever used - easy to apply, very natural looking with light application, and still pretty natural looking with heavy application, and incredibly clump-free, much more so than any other waterproof mascara I have tried that advertises itself as "clump free" (note, I have found that non-waterproof mascaras tend to be less clumpy, but I get slight panda eyes from these after just a couple hours, even without coming near any water or doing any exercise - I guess some people are more prone to this than others)
In summary: Great product! I really hope that Max Factor continues to make this, as it seems that every time I find something that really works for me, it gets discontinued!
Edit: I had originally given this 5 stars, but I discovered that after about 4-5 weeks, the product ages and becomes more clumpy on application. This probably isn't such a bad thing, as you aren't supposed to keep mascara very long (although 1 month shelf life seems a bit short), but my initial rave reviews definitely refer to the fresher rather than older product!
