5.0 out of 5 stars Blameless? Faultless, 21 Sep 2010
This review is from: Blameless: Book 3 of The Parasol Protectorate (Paperback)
Having read Soulless, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Changeless and Blameless. If you like your books to paint you a picture of your character and their setting, you may be disappointed because these books require you to have an imagination. And therein lies the joy, just enough for you to add in the detail. Brilliant plots, populated with characters you can't help but like - even the awful ones! Alexia is blunt, forthright and recognises her own faults. It would take a supernatural to be more blunt, forthright and flawed, and husband Conall is that and more (or less). The plot motors along at her usual breakneck speed, doing improbable things in improbable ways. My first Steampunk (?) novels, I found the technological aspect easy to follow, and amusing. As a fantasy fan, I was pleased to see the Werewolves come out on top, and delightfully most of the vampires are rather unpleasant (and not one is moping after a teenage girl - a plus in my book and this one!) You can't actually trust Carriger to end the book on a happy, loved up note, so be prepared! She keeps you on your toes right up until the end. There are enough threads left over to knit together for the next book (just a shame its ages till its published). I also loved that each booked carried on from the other, with no gaps, it felt as though the 3 books were written as one and then split. I look forward to more offerings from Ms Carriger.
