A very varied and enjoyable collection. The books starts with poems taking unusual perspectives on the physical world - from outer space in the opening and title poem, and moving onto the impact of, for example, floods on buildings. There is a little philosophy (mentions of Anselm and St Augustine, for example), a little history (one poem is about The Lepers' Plot (1321)), some takes on art (eg a poet about Chaim Soutine's wife, but also poems describing frescoes) and some on people approaching the end of life. All - or almost all - of it highly accessible. There is one poem which describes the impact of music on someone 'incurably deaf and squat' ("Outcast") but admiring. This sums up pretty well how I feel as I read this volume about the skill on display here.
