Can we build it? Yes we can!,
This review is from: The Lego Movie [DVD] (DVD)
There are many who say that this movie is nothing but an extended advertisement for the now iconic Danish building blocks – to them I say Bah humbug! Whilst not as anarchically brilliant as the Lego Star Wars DVDs released a couple of years ago, this remains a satisfyingly silly and impressively rendered film for kids and adults alike. Voice artists include Will Ferrell as the sinister Lord Business, Chris Pratt as everyman hero Emmet, and Will Arnett as the film’s best character – the egotistical and self-absorbed Lego Batman. Morgan Freeman also voices a crazed wizard, and Liam Neeson is the schizophrenic Bad Cop, whose good side is erased after his boss Lord Business deems him to nice to achieve the villain’s nefarious purpose – the complete domination of the Lego universe.
My only reservation (hence four stars and not five) was with the cheesy ending, and the clumsy switch from animation to live action, which not only prolonged the movie unnecessarily but was just one self-conscious indulgence too far. With a sequel already in the Lego pipeline however, this is one franchise that will surely run and run.
