4.0 out of 5 stars Works with my Mac, 13 Jan. 2010

This is not a top class bit of kit, but it does get the job done. Yes it is made from cheap plastic, and yes it is not the best looking thing, but it does work. If you are a MacBook user, the additional USB ports are very handy, as there are only 2 on my MacBook Pro. The fans seem to keep my mac cool, they do make a bit of a noise, similar to normal desktop pc, but quieter than when my mac goes into over-drive. The stand works well enough and is adjustable, although if you take your laptop off too quickly it can jump out of its position.

I've been using this for about month without any problems, and it does get used everyday.

About the adjustable cooling pad. The fans works ok when the switch is in the left hand position, but Windows does not recognise any of the 4 USB hubs on the stand and I cannot use the printer when I plug it into it. I have tried the stand switch in all 3 positions. Not a major problem as I have 3 hubs on my PC anyway and I don't need to use them all permanently, I just plug in my iPod and camera when I need to, but I just wonder if you have suggestions.

Hi John - the problem is almost certainly power related. You might find that they all will work if the fan is off. Sometimes my ipod will not charge from one of the usb ports if the fan is on. Why? Well the usb connector draws power from your computers usb port to drive the fans, and whatever power is left is distributed to the 4 ports on the stand. That might not be enough for some things to work, although assuming your printer has it's own power supply I would expect it to work, so that is strange. If none of the ports work when the fan is off then you might have a faulty stand.

Only other thing that springs to mind is if your computer is very old, there might be some sort of issue with usb types (1.0, 2.0 and 3.0) - although again not sure as the new ones are supposed to be backwards compatible with the old ones
