I felt the need to write this in response to a couple of the other reviews.
Noisy? absolutely. Difficult? probably. Directionless? certainly not.
I can hear the language of King Crimson in this - a tantalising hint that there is something deeper, a source to which I have no access but of which I am able to enjoy the fruits and I keep being drawn back to this album. It's strangely compelling and feels like I'm not quite seeing the whole picture - but perhaps with enough listening and thinking I could. It's not just pure improvisation but rather there is a structure, provided by Zorn, around which the two musicians work and to my mind it is more than the sum of it's parts.
Enigmata is a good title for it.
