5.0 out of 5 stars Western Perfection, 1 Dec. 2013
This review is from: The Magnificent Seven (Special Edition) [DVD] [1960] (DVD)
Yes, we know it's a remake of Seven Samurai. Still the twenty words could just be "perfect, perfect....".

For that's what this is; each character perfectly delineated and introduced. Each scene set up perfectly. The pace of the movie, the music, the heroism, the humour and the interplay with the villagers. None of the players has a better movie in their CV.

This is more than just one of the greatest Westerns. It's one of the greatest movies. So rarely is everything done so well.

fat man,you are excelling yourself once again:thank you for your superb and succinct review.
I might add the following to your assessment:I would encourage schools to show this film as part of the curriculum.
Humility, compassion, honour, chivalry, standing up to bullies, judging people by what they are not by what they've got are just a few lessons young people could learn from watching this film.
Boy, do I sound like a grumpy old fart. Sorry.
Sincerely,Bob.
Footnote:were you deliberately antagonizing us with your remark re. players CV?
McQueen:Bullitt [1968] [DVD],Steve McQueen Collection : The Great Escape / The Magnificent Seven / The Thomas Crown Affair / The Sand Pebbles (4 Disc Box Set) [DVD] etc.
Coburn:Cross Of Iron [DVD],Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid [DVD] etc.
Need I go on?

Makes two of us, I guess, and your points are so very true. Thanks for the endorsement. Wasn't a wind up on the CV bit- I said none had anything better in their CVs; there are many great great movies on their CVs, but I meant only that this is as good as any. Can't claim it as the best, as it would depend on my mood when I watched. I can add The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, and a bunch of other great movies that these guys contributed to; premier league all.
