Good low cost alternative to the full Wii,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Mini Red (Console)
I've never owned the "full" version of the Wii, so can't compare directly with that. Overall it works fine, and for the price it's a good buy. We bought it for my 5 year old son on the basis that we didn't want to spend the money on a full current generation console, and that the Wii has lots of games geared towards children. Some caveats:
1. The graphics is grainy. I am assuming this is mainly due to the lack of HDMI out. Great shame. Though I'm unimpressed with the graphics in general, and even my 5 year old son who this is for pointed out that it looks different to the Youtube videos he's seen of the game we bought (Skylanders Swap Force), though he does not seem bothered by it.
2. Pointing the controller at the screen for the start up menu is annoyingly difficult to get right. Maybe we placed the sensor bar poorly, but there's no good reason to require pointing for the menu in the first place.
Buy if you want a cheap console to run old Wii games on, but keep in mind this is a cost reduced "last generation" console which won't run most new (Wii U) games.
My main issue is with the lack of HDMI and that's what drags this down - it's a real shame.
Keep in mind the rating is based on the low price and upfront expectation this is not going to be a current generation console. Compared to the (much more expensive) current generation, I'd have taken off another star. My son does not seem to care, though.
