Excellent new translation by Martin Hammond of Arrian's Anabasis and Indica, his account of the life and campaigns of Alexander the Great. Despite Arrian lived some four hundred or so years after his subject, the Anabasis is considered to be the best written portrait of Alexander.
The Introduction is clear and concise - always helpful, and the Explanatory Notes at the end of the book are really worthwhile consulting.
I found reading this particular take on Arrian most enjoyable, something akin to a page-turner which, given all the Classical texts one was made to read at school/university, was a nice surprise.
