4.0 out of 5 stars The Rockabilly Side of Memphis, 9 April 2014
This review is from: Big Shot: The Fernwood Records Story 1957-1962 (Audio CD)
New one on me, but this collection from Fernwood (about half its total output) is another in this bargain series - the highlight for me being the Scotty Moore (long time associate and later guitarist for Elvis) Trio's "Have Guitar - Will Travel" semi-instrumental Duane Eddy-style. The label scored a US hit with "Tragedy" - not the BeeGees song, by Thomas Wayne, vaguely remember Billy Fury having a version at some stage, and even Paul McCartney and Wings covered it. I digress, this is rockabilly in the raw for the most part with some more poppy and novelty stuff. There are some duff numbers on there, but at 10p a track why quibble?
