The best film of 2012, and one of the best superhero movies ever made.,
This review is from: The Dark Knight Rises (DVD + UV Copy) (DVD)
Cristopher Nolan started something very special when he gave the world Batman Begins. He brought the origin of the caped crusader to the screen with a gritty sense of realism, awesome action, a brilliant script and a cast of very talanted actors. With The Dark Knight we got a sequel that more than equalled its predecessor and boasted a performance by Heath Ledger as the Joker that put deservedly won him countless awards. And now the third, and most likely final addition to the Dark Knight trilogy has arrived and it doesn't dissapoint.
Eight years have passed since Bruce Wayne hung up his cloak and mask and retreated into Wayne Manor to become a recluse, grieved by the death of his love and weary from his days of fighting crime. But he isn't out of action for much longer as a new, terrifying threat arrives in Gotham in the form of Bane, a terrorist with a ruthless agenda: to blow the city of Gotham to bits. And so, Wayne finds himself once again fighting to save his city. As usual David S Goyer and Nolan have written a flawless and gripping screenplay, the story is both complex and flowing and never once does it stall or stagnate.
The cast is as brilliant as the first two installments, returning alongside Christian Bale are Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Anne Hathaway joins as Catwoman, as does Tom Hardy as the villian Bane. Each delivers a flawless performance and its clear that they put their full efforts into this film.
Nolan proves once again that he is among the greatest directors at work today, he brings such realism and raw emotion, alongside thrilling action, stirring fight scenes and epic shots that its impossible not to be swept up in this film and engrossed right to the very end. He handles the action scenes very well as he does with the more subtle, powerful emotions that run so high in this film. The special effects are as brilliant as ever, Nolan uses effects where necessary and opts to do as much as possible with real props and stunts to again achieve realism.
The soundtrack, scored by Hans Zimmer is epic, moving and stirring and it suits the film perfectly.
Overall, The Dark Knight Rises is the best of the three Nolan Batman movies and is the best film to be released so far in 2012. It is both gripping and action packed and delivers such an emotional punch that it will leave you in awe. This could not have been any better and i defy anyone to not be entertained by this film. There are twists and turns and some final revelations and hints at the future of Batman, though Nolan has said this is the last film he will do on the series. By the final thrilling climax it feels like an epic era is drawing to a close and it feels somewhat sad to think that. Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy has become one of the greatest hero series' ever made for film and it will go down in history as such.
Perfect, awesome, unmissable!
