Maybe my mistake but this is a plastic/rubber item not metal. It will probably do the job but is a complete rip off for the price. Don't buy it.

There's no "maybe" about you being mistaken, I'm afraid. You definitely are!
The item is superior to metal in that it is flexible and can be used as an oven glove/pan-lifter. As a pot stand it safely grips the hot pan and stops it sliding onto the worktop. It will do the same for a mixing bowl.
It happens that lots of the latest cooking gadgets are now made of heat-resisting non-stick silicone rubber. It is brilliant stuff.... extremely hard-wearing and easy to keep clean.
Best of all is a silicone spatula or mixing spoon.... in combination with a non-stick saucepan, either will make the fluffiest scrambled eggs. As you draw the spatula across the hot bottom of the pan the flexibility of the silicone makes the curds of cooked egg come up SO smoothly.
Yeah.... Silicone rubber is a real breakthrough product in the kitchen.

It is very clearly described - silicone. End of.

How would you use a metal disk to grip and open a jar? How would a metal disk stop a dish from slipping on the counter and not scratch? Read the product description before buying items then you shouldn't be so disappointed!

What a very strange review! I would love to hear how you thought that a metal disk could facilitate opening a jar! I also find it extraordinary how £5.60 is a rip off. Anything that bears the name Le Creuset that retails at that price is a bargain. Rant over!
