This is essentially a bravely made film about a bunch of undoubtedly brave guys who've unfortunately been convinced that they're fighting for 'Freedom' (a word so misused it's practically lost all meaning) rather than the profits of multinational oil and defence companies. I doubt any of them could have given a good reason as to why they were there (and don't give me the 9/11 line or we would have been invading Saudi Arabia, you know, our women-stoning friends and where nearly all the alleged hijackers were from, or Pakistan where they were very probably based (also our friends - whoops!)). 'Just doing my job' doesn't cut it any more I'm afraid.
An hour and a half of well meaning but completely misguided soldiers who are being used as disposable pawns by their government and can't even see it, fighting a horrific, religiously warped enemy (who, to be fair, also probably consider themselves well meaning) and killing untold amounts of innocent people on the way is frankly, an exercise in futility and leads to nothing more than a feeling of absolute despair at the state of the human race.
I love the way these guys get frustrated at the local leaders and their complaints about their kids being killed. What exactly would you do if America or Britain got occupied because another country didn't like our leaders? Something many countries would probably have more justification for than we did.
And these admittedly skilled men push farther into enemy territory than ever before and then what happens? They go home and abandon it. A metaphor for the whole war if ever there was one, and the two stars I've given are just in case that was intentional on the filmmakers part.

You're supposed to be reviewing the film, not the war itself.

Erm. Perhaps you need to read my review again. Or at least once, properly.

Mr. Phoebus says:
I did read it properly, and I've just read it again. Your view of the film is completely coloured by your view of the war. Therefore, you are not reviewing the film. You are using the review option to comment on the war.
Perhaps you need to read your own review again.

Hi D. Payne,
Whether you or I or anyone else agrees or disagrees with this (or any other war) isn't really the purpose of an Amazon DVD review.
So, in spite of your opposition, are you glad you watched the film and would you recommend that others watch it?

Helpful comments there from a) someone who thinks Come Fly With Me is 'brilliant', b) someone clearly obsessed with war and murder and c) someone who brands people who don't happen to like the same things they do as 'idiots'.
