Great Speakers, Exceeded expectations.,
This review is from: Bose ® Companion ® 20 Multimedia Speaker System (Electronics)
Ordered these after I moved, and wanted something great not only for PC but also for multimedia and listening to music from my iPod.
As an audiophile these speakers sufficed me pretty well. The bass was very clear, however if the speakers aren't placed strategically it will be punchy. I suggest placing their backs against a wall, this was the low frequencies will reflect off the wall towards you. The tumbling sounds were fine and listening to bass-heavy dubstep was enjoyable.
Listening to general music(Coldplay, Beatles, etc) was also very good, since the speakers provide exceptionally clear sound. The sound was very crisp, vocals were great and at no point did I think that an instrument or a voice was drowned out.
At the top volume, the speakers began to fuzz a little bit, but not by a considerable amount. I learned that listening to music lacking 1 or 2 top segments (mac and iPod volume control) didn't make a significant difference to the volume, yet delivered no fuzz. Also, twisting the black volume control on the pod about 2-3 degrees did the same, if you prefer to keep input volume at its highest.
The control pod, just like the speakers, was of great build quality, very much like the rest of Bose products. Quick mute function proved to be useful when answering calls, and it didn't suddenly abrupt the music, instead quickly faded it, so that the volume change didn't hurt my ears. However, I found that plugging in an external audio source into the control pod delivered much lower quality audio than using the original input. Also, when plugging an external source in, that source will be preferred to the main input, which may be something to keep in mind if you plan to always have two devices connected to the speakers.
Overall these were a great pair of speakers that have after a month of everyday usage been a pleasure with no signs of problems. Delivering great quality audio for any music taste and having a very exclusive and expensive aesthetic. If you have £200 to spend on speakers, I don't recommend looking further.
