As expected a good read, well written and on the mark,
This review is from: The New Road to Serfdom: A Letter of Warning to America (Hardcover)
I admit I am a fan of Daniel Hannan, his view of localism and libertarianism. Clearly this book was aimed at the American audience, but being a Brit with a basic grasp of US politics this book was still an interesting read. The book is pretty much a short (187 pages) discussion on the differences between US and EU/UK politics. Explaining the why the two are fundamentally different and why the US should not seek to 'Europeanise' it's own politics, Hannan draws on his experiences in the UK and the EU, and compares them with what happens (and why) in America. The arguments are well thought-out and fairly presented, and the writing style is deceptively straight-forward (i.e. it presents complicated views in a concise manner). The reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because it seemed that it could have been a bit more in-depth, however all-in-all it was a good read that I would recommend to anyone, American or not.
