5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!!!, 7 Oct 2010
This review is from: Biblical Nonsense: A Review of the Bible for Doubting Christians (Paperback)
I have read many books which expose the fallacy of religion from every angle (cult tactics; science; history; DNA; maths; etc). This book is extremely well written and he covers just the right topics in the right sequence/process to educate the reader from the basics as to HOW people get seduced by the lies of the clergy; how the clergy retain control over the minds of devotees (great explanation of cognitive dissonance) and great overview of logical fallacies as used by defenders of faith. Then he analyses the content of the Bible - the bizarre stories and doctrines. KABOOM ! he explodes the myths and exposes the patent folly and nonsense of the Bible.
I so wish i read this book as a teenager - i could have saved so many man-hours, money and headspace by knowing that the Bible is such illogical, implausible, impossible, anti-science, nonsensical trash which portrays a deity which is worse than the worst dictator and mass murderer.
GREAT BOOK - i strongly recommend this book to friends and especially to the slaves of religion who need help and liberation.
Friends don't let friends suffer from delusions/false beliefs.

Steven says:
The Bible says to rape and kill children as a weapon of genocidal warfare :-

Numbers 31:15-18
King James Version (KJV)
15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

contradicts itself :-

John 5:31
New International Version (NIV)
Testimonies About Jesus
31 "If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
And contradicts it :-
John 8:14
New International Version (NIV)
14 Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.

approves of slavery :-

1 Peter 2:18
Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

makes wrong prophesy that Jesus will return in that his disciples generations lifetime :-

Mark 13.
26 "At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
28 "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

thinks the Sun circles the Earth, over and under :-

Ecclesiastes 1:5
The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.

and the Bible also has the Earth placed in its position by God so that it shall never move, ever, and yet it rotates both about its own axis and around the Sun which orbits the galaxy which moves relative to the other galaxies.

While the Bible is factually wrong barbaric superstition the real would can be understood by the scientific method which involves making observations of the real world (universe) and coming up with explanations of what is seen, theories, and then making further observations in an attempt to disprove such theories which can result in scrapping or modifying or accepting as is those theories. The scientific method also includes the communication of ideas and facts of the above process.

The author of the article did not substitute one arbitrary believe for another, as the commenter implies, he scrapped superstition (a BS reinforcer) for science (a BS filter).
