My wife used the steam cleaner downstairs he first day I installed the Nest Alarm on the upstairs landing and it went off and then it would not stop going off despite the steam clearing and the windows open. In the end I had to take all the batteries out as there is no reset option. Finally it cleared and put it back in place. All well for 3 weeks until my son comes back from university has a shower in the downstairs bathroom and sets it off again. This time it won't be silenced, going off repeatedly despite taking batteries out for three days. Even taking into another room doesn't seem to get it to clear. Really maddening and not at all well-thought out as you can't reset it.
Shame as it is easy to install and works well with the iPhone and iPad telling you an emergency. Another good feature is the light that comes on at night when you get up to go downstairs. It also looks good. Needs a bit of a rethink but at this price you have to expect more. Most annoyingly the return option ran out two days ago so can't get a refund.

Hi Soltar,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you had with your Nest Protects.

Nest Protect can sometimes be set off by sources of steam, if enough steam enters the smoke chamber.

In the event of an errant alarm you should be able to silence the alarm horn by pressing the Nest button, or waving at the Protect on the wall. You can find more information in the article below.

If the steam carried particles into the smoke chamber, this could explain why the alarm kept sounding after the steam was cleared.
