This review is from: Belkin Chambray Case for Kindle Fire HD 7" Purple (will only fit All-New Kindle Fire HD 7") (Accessory)
I had spent a couple of hours researching the different types of cases available for the new (2013) Kindle Fire HD so thought I would try to summarize what styles are available and why I ended up with the Belkin.
There looks to be 3 basic styles of case.
One is a sleeve where the kindle slips inside and closes with either a zip or a folding flap. I was put off that design a bit by the fact that when the kindle was in use the case would be separated and liable to be left on a desk or table and lost. Also that if the Kindle was dropped in use there would be no protection.
The second style tends to be leather or vinyl and holds the kindle in place by gripping round the edges and over 1 cm of the front all the way round. Looking at images of these, it appears that these would be OK so far as protecting the Kindle but just a bit ugly and having the effect of making the screen appear smaller than it is. Also some of the leather cases were around the £45 to £50 price point which is nearly half the price of the kindle.
These things are always down to personal taste, but I preferred the third style case like this Belkin. It is exactly the correct size to hold the kindle in place around the 2 sides and all 4 corners. It doesn't overlap the front, so you can see the whole screen and the whole of the glass surround.
Please note, there is only one Kindle this case will fit, the 2013 Fire HD.
This case has the appearance of a book, with a light but strong plastic protecting the back of the device, with reinforced plastic and cloth front. There is a colour coordinated elastic strap to keep the case closed when not in use, but the strap is not the type which you can easily use to help you hold the kindle while you are reading.
The case can be used to keep the Kindle upright and readable in a landscape orientation, but it is not as good if you want to to rest portrait style. A couple of times when using the case as a stand it has fallen over. The brackets that turn it into a stand could do with being a couple of mm taller.
I tend to hold the kindle when I read so that is not usually an issue for me.
The case is light and does not add any significant weight to the kindle, but if you have small fingers you may find it adds thickness. There are cutouts where needed so you can charge the kindle whilst in its case and can easily access all the buttons.
The purple colour shown on the Amazon site is accurate and the case is advertised very accurately. I have bought Belking items before and they tend to me well made with good materials. This is no exception.
The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that when using the case as a stand, the design could be better but overall very happy with my purchase.
