Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Liteon ETDU108-01 8x External Slimline DVD ROM (White) (Accessory)
I bought this to use with an Asus EEE running Windows XP.
I plugged it in and it immediately played an audio cd no problem.
I tried my first DVD and it wouldn't play, I got a Windows error. I installed PowerDvd and the initial dvd still wouldn't play but it was a cheapo thrown in free with an audio cd. I tried a proper DVD (Matilda actually) and it played fine via the Windows player. Suspect the PowerDVD install has the extra plugins that XP need to play DVDs but all the same that's software and not related to this product.
The DVD-rom works and is very good looking. Matches the Netbook perfectly. I like the flip up lid better than a slide out draw. I suspect it will take rougher handling. The usb cable is only about 2 inches long which seems a bit short! But it's a standard fitment and I have a number of them lying around the house, so again no stress.
Having read a lot of reviews around different external cd/dvd readers for netbooks, I was half expecting this not to be compatible and have to send it back. I am pleasantly surprised. It looks good and works fine.

No it wasn't a burnt one. It was the dvd that came with Pop Princesses 2008. Maybe this player just has some taste and refuses to play crap!!!!

I cannot say. You need to know what type of disc it is and then refer to the manufacturer instructions. Sorry.
