The most helpful book about building videogames I've read.,
This review is from: Game Coding Complete, 3rd (Paperback)
I studied computer science and I have a very strong background in C++
and how software should be done.
Even that being true, I found the book VERY useful.
Some of the things it says are common sense, but I sometimes just needed that someone
told me: do it this way! That makes you much more convinced about what you should do.
The book is COMPLETE, like the title says. It's the best book about building games
I've read to date because it manages every aspect in an integrated way. Everything
you should need is inside the book.
Regarding to the contents of the book itself, I would say that advice about
using automated builds in
a separate machine, how to manage alpha/beta and milestones to not get stalled
and the cooperative multitasking code are priceless. I don't mean that
other pieces aren't useful, I just want to say that I found those very useful
for me. For anyone who wants to write games,
I recommend to buy this book without doubting a second.
It will surely be helpful, even for other (nongame) software development
in some aspects.
