4.0 out of 5 stars Just to warn people..., 7 Feb. 2012

This review is from: Jasper Carrott - Canned Carrott Vol.1 [DVD] (DVD)
This show is great, glad to finally see it on DVD, but please be aware that the first episode is sourced from an off-air VHS recording, despite the fact that it states on the cover that all material is sourced from original recordings. It probably won't jeopardise your viewing pleasure, but there are several VHS artefacts throughout the episode. I think it's important for people to be aware of this to avoid disappointment. All other episodes appear to be sourced from originals.
Other than the issue mentioned above, the DVD set is excellent, very funny. Hopefully the second series will be released some time soon as well!

Mr. J. Nolan says:
ALL the material on this DVD was sourced from the original masters--and NOT as this customer writes.

Pardon me for saying so, but I am a professional video restorer, and I CAN tell when material has been sourced from a VHS cassette. Why don't you explain all the VHS artefacts, such as lines and brief drop outs, etc. if you're so convinced that it's not from an off-air VHS recording?

I was in the studio mate--and it came straight from the master--very old but it wasn't within a million miles of a VHS--You clearly know nothing --just guessing. Pathetic

You're clearly just trying to cover up your laziness by trying to act all oh so high and mighty over me. I have been restoring/preserving videos from all kinds of formats for over 10 years now. See this link for a full-size picture comparison between the first episode (Apparently sourced from a "Studio Master") and the third episode (Definitely from the Studio Master)

That is NOT the sort of visual quality you would get, even from a badly damaged studio master. And try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, how's this then:

1: The image to the left is clearly blurrier than the one on the right. Detail is also absent.
2: The colours are clearly washed out!
3: That strange black space at the bottom of the left image that isn't on the right...Isn't that where the VHS signal is crunchy at the bottom?! Why is it cropped? Because you wanted to cover up the fact that you're a cheap company.

You should be grateful that someone hasn't notified trading standards about this.
Sorry to bat the ball back in to your court, but you can't just make these false claims and cry about it when someone figures you out. Grow up.
