This review is from: Discover Scotland (Lonely Planet Country Guides) (Paperback)
I was a bit unsure about the value of Lonely Planet's Discover-series but gave it a try for my 14 days trip by car + hotels through Scotland. This guide focuses on descriptions of major attractions including excellent photos, but often too brief and with little advice on how to get there nor how to move around within the place. Also sights were sequenced in a confusing way so geographically planning days' program became difficult. Half way through the trip I physically threw out the book and bought an ordinary, full-fledged guide - in fact I picked the one from Rough, but from browsing both in a bookstore found the ordinary Lonely Planet Country Guide similar in format and content. To me the Discover-edition seems fit for guided tours participants, not for self-planners like me.
