The Iron Jackal,

This review is from: The Iron Jackal (Paperback)
A straight 5 star because it offers exactly what it claims to offer. If you want to spend time in the company of richly developed, likeable characters, trying their best to 'muddle through' a `ripping yarn' in an increasingly interesting world then read the `Tales of the Ketty Jay'.
Having read Retribution Falls and the Black Lung Captain I confess to have been waiting impatiently for the Iron Jackal to be published. If you are familiar with the first two books then this one won't disappoint with a great story, plenty of well-written action and just the right degree of dry humour. To give away more detail would spoil the plot but enough to say this story reveals more about key characters and expands their world in new and interesting directions.
There are some books that people say `you can't put down' and this, for me, is one of them. My only concern is where Chris Wooding goes from here. This book opens up number of potential new directions and it will be interesting to see which get developed in the next novel. I now find myself torn. I really want to see certain plot lines resolved in what I desperately hope will be satisfying ways but that could mean the end of the series and I want to spend a lot more years in the company of these characters.
You keep writing the tales Mr Wooding (hopefully soon!) and I for one will keep reading them.
