Great adventure collection of this anti-hero character,
This review is from: Brown Dog: Novellas (Audio CD)
"Brown Dog: Novellas" by Jim Harrison is a collection of short works which are connected by the main character Brown Dog, one of those literature anti-heroes who besides loving women and drink, truly lives as though every day is his last.
Jim Harrison who is best-selling and beloved writer in US, created his Indian character more than twenty years ago and since then follows his adventures mostly in Michigan where he was born and live, and across America.
Brown Dog grew up without parents that abandoned him, being raised by his grandfather that was an experience which affected his way of relating to people and desire for solitude only then feeling happy.
He lives in deer shacks during the time when deer season is closed, paying with his work performing needed repairs, working just enough to have much time for fishing, and generally likes to stay in the countryside where he feels comfortable.
But his vices, women and alcohol, often force him to wrong decisions...
These stories which are for the first time gathered and published in a single edition enable reader to learn about the culture and life of the Native Americans, and although they can be read separately literary pleasure is more distinctive if they're read as a whole, given that their action connect one to the other.
Therefore, if you previously read some of Harrison Brown Dog stories, but especially if you haven't read any, this nice compilation of all of his adventures in one book together with latest novel "He Dog" is absolutely recommended.
