This review is from: The Thinker's Guide to God (Paperback)
A group of us are reading a chapter a week and then discussing it, on our pathway to examining, exploring, developing, our view of what God is. We each have different aims, we each start from a different blend of views and experiences. We are a mixed bunch of Anglicans, Friends, Methodists, and doubters. Together the book and our tutor are helping us in our fumbling exploration. Vardy leads us to consider different historic and current views of God, the use of the language around belief, and I'm sure there will be more challenges to our thinking in the weeks to come (we're at Chapter 5 as I write this). Difficult concepts are well explained without dumbing down.
Two downsides to the book - the shiny paper can be difficult to read in certain lights, and the illustrations are sometimes too small to appreciate the excellent works of art that are used as examples. Poor Julie Arliss gets very little credit. Everyone refers to the book as "Vardy"!
