DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK,
This review is from: Fanzines (Paperback)
Unfortunately, a great deal of the artwork contained within was included without the permission of the original artists, and in some cases, mis-credited or not credited at all. My artwork was included and I wasn't even informed until after publication. Teal herself has refused to answer many of the emails sent to her in regards to this matter, and has ignored calls for apologies and / or compensation. To make matters worse, much of the information provided in her essays is blatantly untrue. I would absolutely not recommend this book. If you insist on reading it, check it out at your local library, but please do not contribute your hard-earned cash.

Hello Amber says:
Nope, I don't want and have never asked for financial compensation. I'm telling people not to buy the book because permission was not granted for a large part of the content to be included, because some of it is mis-credited and because it's poorly researched with many misrepresentations and flat-out factual errors.

Digital Ghost - Using other peoples' work without permission (particularly for your own financial gain) is a lousy way to do business. When I clicked through on the link from another Amazon page, I was intrigued by the book. Personally, I'm grateful for the comments left here, and I certainly won't be buying the book. I say this as someone who is anally-retentive about getting permission for any source material I use in my projects, and as someone who has had my work stolen by others.

Get a life guys! This is a pretty good attempt at presenting a huge topic. Ok, so there are some factual errors, but you should know better than anyone that this is not mainstream culture so its hard to fact check everything. I'm sure things will be corrected in future re-prints if you let Teal know. I am a fanzine editor featured in the book and know a lot of those who were. None of the 'old school' fanzine editors are kicking up such a fuss, its the newer ones who feel they have been slighted. I think Jo got it spot on when she described the wingers (including herself) as "anally retentive"!

I think you mean "whingers", by the way. How's that for anally-retentive? ;-p
