This is a really lovely book ideally aimed at dressmaking beginners or improvers. I think it is a really fresh and modern spin on dressmaking, I have taken a dressmaking course before and although I prefer a prefer a hands-on practical approach to learning I think this book is a good supplement. It is full of the basics and useful tips and ideas to go beyond what you can make from this book. I like that everything is very well thought out and clearly written, at times it is almost as if you are taking actual lessons.
This book comes with 7 of Tilly's designs plus variations of the designs, complete with the printed pattern templates which can be found in the back cover. The printed pattern sheets cover 6 of the 7 designs which can be made in up to 8 different sizes. The patterns can be traced as outlined in the book so that you can keep your original pattern sheets.
Each design instructions has a very well laid out outline of what you need, which techniques you'll be using (always referring which page to go back to), sizing and pattern details and suggestions. I like this because at a quick glance, you have an idea of what you're making and set out to achieve.
I like the design styles included in this book, they have a girly vintage feel to them which is popular so I think there is some appeal for a fair target audience for this book. I wouldn't necessarily wear the styles myself but it wouldn't stop me making them to gain skill and confidence in dressmaking.
I recommend this book, although I have not quite given the full 5 stars as the design styles are not fully to my taste. I hope Tilly writes another book as I'd be interested to see what other design patterns she comes up with next.
