Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Book Thief (Kindle Edition)
I bought this because of the hype so I only have myself to blame. Maybe there is a point to the book , a story worth telling, but it is so tedious and the writing so clumsy and tortured I have given up. I cannot understand why anyone enjoyed it.
Before you add comments about how many people have given it five stars, let me remind you, that Fifty Shades of Grey had even more 5 stars. That was also rubbish , so 5 stars means very little.

I would think that 5 stars means it is very popular.

Five stars may mean it is popular but you miss my point. Popular dosen't always mean good writing, tabloid newspapers are popular . I have downloaded quite a few books with 5 star ratings and some have been good but some have been truly dire,

Who decides whether it's good writing then? You?

Yes, in this case as it is my review. Does popular opinion mean it is good , I refer you to my comment about tabloid newspapers, Mills and Boon are popular does that make it great literature.
