Yet another delicious offering from the wonderful Mr Slater,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Eat: The Little Book of Fast Food (Cloth-covered, flexible binding) (Paperback)
I have around 6,500 cookery books, but it is Nigel's which have pride of place on my coffee table, and his are the ones I love reading as I relax reclined on my sofa at nights! Needless to say, I have all Nigel's books.
This is such a gorgeous book - even before you open it. The size is unique for such a book, and what a treat that is - you could easily handle this reasonably small volume in bed. Small and compact - but certainly not short of charm and content. I love the feel of the material cover, and the beautifully designed half sleeve added to protect the book a little. I've handled it very carefully so far, as it is so precious, and I've even dotted back and fore from the kitchen to refer to the recipes, rather than risk getting it mucky!
Inside the format is simplicity itself, with clear clean print and elegant pictures of all the dishes. At first I felt the photos were a tad on the small side, and I know that's to do with the attractive layout of the pages, and the clean cut lines, but they are perfectly satisfactory for showing what you as the cook are aiming for with the finished dish. The text, ingredient listings and instructions are all totally straightforward, as they should be - great cooking or food preparation does not need to be at all complicated.
The ribbon bookmark just seals the deal for me - the icing on the cake - the sign of a REAL book!
This newly released offering from Nigel is indeed a highly innovative classic, as the cover says, and the perfect ingredient for every home, for "when we just want to eat".
