This superb album was featured on John Peel's radio show in autumn 1974, where I first heard it. It's a terrific rock record, full of great songs and driving rhythms. Rock anthems such as Bridge Of God contrast with aching ballads - Is it Only Love is a stand-out track.
Pretty Things' follow-up Savage Eye is not quite as good, but Cross Talk, which they recorded in 1980, showed they could fully absorb the lessons of punk and dish it out in the meanest slice of rock and roll ever cut on vinyl.
But for glorious technicolour rock before giganticism ruined the genre, this is as good as it gets.
