OK but limited in its use.,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Cyberlink Media Suite 8 Pro (PC CD) (CD-ROM)
Most of the software in this package works fine and does a creditable job - BUT, and its a big BUT - The included version of Power Director 8.0 Pro is very limited as to what can be achieved using it. The user is constantly bombarded with little pop ups that suggest upgrading to Power Director 8.0 ULTRA.
One buys a video editor to presumably, edit video, seems a logical reason.
Integral to any editing software is the ability to split clips into small segments. Yes it will allow you to do that....but it won't allow you to trim those clips into frame accurate edits as the version of Power Director 8.0 included in Media Suite 8 doesn't support the full trim tool.
Cyberlink's own Technical Support apologetically varified this in an e-mail, after I complained of being sold what I consider to be, an incomplete piece of software.
After all I think most would agree, that buying an editing program without a fully working, frame accurate trim tool, is akin to buying a new car, and being told afterwards that the wheels aren't included, to get them you need to upgrade to the GT version.
Other than the included Power DVD 9 - I have no issues with any of the other software in Media Suite 8.0. It is all basically straight forward stuff.
That said, I have yet to discover a version of Power DVD that didn't need upgrading for some reason or other and this one is no exception. It says it will play BluRay discs when an appropriate BD ROM is installed. I have an LG BluRay player in my computer....and I can confirm that the included version of Power DVD-9 doesn't play BluRay movies, it simply keeps suggesting that I upgrade to a higher version.
I resolved my Video Editing problems by buying Power Director 8.0 ULTRA...This is the one to go for if you want a fully working version. But even it, has pop up ads for add-ons etc.
They are however, only a minor annoyance, and after a few hours use of the program you tend not to notice them at all.
I bought ULTRA from amazon rather than upgrade from Cyberlink as the upgrade price was far more expensive than buying the full software from Amazon.
Just a word about Cyberlink's Tech support. I have had cause to contact them twice. The first time was about a recurring registration problem...This was efficiently resolved within one working day. The second time was regarding the very restricted trim tool..This took two days for me to be apologetically told that the MEDIA SUITE version of Power Director 8.0 that I had bought didn't support this feature.
To sum up then - The Power Director software in MEDIA SUITE 8 works but in a limited way. If you want good, fully functional editing software, then best avoid this version and go straight for POWER DIRECTOR 8.0 ULTRA.
