the sash locks do seem to work ok and seem really strudy once installed. BUT there is a flaw in the way to install it. It is supposed to be designed for sash windows but you are supposed to somehow get the little part that the bolt screws into, into the outside edge of the window. However you can't reach this edge!! we tried drilling a slightly larger hole (it doesn't fit down the suggested 10mm hole) but this made the lock a bit loose. Think someone needs to look at the design of these although overall seem pretty secure.

You need to open the sash windows to put the "little part that the bolt screws into" into the outer sash... you are right that you cannot put that part in if the windows don't open but if they don't open... doesn't matter if you don't put it in! They will be loose if you drill bigger than 10mm...
