Sounds For The Couch and The Dancefloor,
This review is from: Self Therapy (Audio CD)
What is it about Berlin that it is able to foster so much talent in the
field of electronic dance music? Scnst, aka producer Bryan Muller, steps
up to the line for the Boysnoize label to deliver an album which although
in many ways typifying the brand's idiosyncratic explorations in techno
does so with considerable individuality and not a little good humour.
'Self Therapy' is a sizable collection of fourteen tracks which manages to
sustain rich melodic and dynamic content within a well-varied sonic palette.
Sure enough there is plenty going on here to set the dancefloor ablaze but
Herr Muller's playful and intelligent nature is such that his work will also
appeal to those with a more cerebral interest who are just as content to
sit still and listen. Either way the project is nothing short of delightful.
From the clattering percussive introduction of 'Velour', set against a
magically melancholy fairytale keyboard motif; through the hissing clash
and clangor of the devilish 'Percee Scan'; the addictive almost jazzy uptown
grooves of 'Throwback' and 'Fovea'; to the bone-rattling cataclysm of 'Mintra',
there are more than enough ideas going on to engage the most jaded listener.
A cunningly delectable confection from top to tail.
