This review is from: Quincy M.E: Series 3 [DVD] (DVD)
The picture and sound quality on this Acorn Media Region 2 release is good, with English subtitles. The extras are a Jack Klugman filmography and a photo gallery. The six discs are stored in a single-size DVD case.

Although a list of the episodes with synopsis can be found on the IMDb, I was slightly disappointed to discover there was no list of the titles on either the case or the disc labels themselves. Instead, the stories are listed numerically, for example, disc 3 is labelled "episodes 8-11" which can be a bit of a bind when searching for a particular story. Only by selecting an episode on the disc's menu do you find out the name of the story. After writing a list of the episodes for reference, I copied it out below...

*DISC ONE:
1. No Deadly Secret.
2. A Blow To the Head... A Blow To the Heart.
3. A Dead Man's Truth.

*DISC TWO:
4. A Question of Time.
5. Death Casts A Vote.
6. Tissue of Truth.
7. Holding Pattern.

*DISC THREE:
8. Main Man.
9. The Hero Syndrome.
10. Touch of Death.
11. The Deadly Connection.

*DISC FOUR:
12. Last of the Dinosaurs.
13. Accomplice To Murder.
14. Matters of Life and Death.

*DISC FIVE:
15. Passing.
16. Crib Job.
17. Ashes To Ashes.

*DISC SIX:
18. Gone But Not Forgotten.
19. Double Death.
20. Requiem For the Living.

"Quincy"... With the countless repeats on TV down the years, is there anyone left out there who doesn't know him?... Running from 1976-83, QUINCY remains very entertaining early pre-CSI fare from producer Glen A. Larson (Knight Rider), blending meticulous forensic investigation & well-paced police procedure. The 46-minute (approx) episodes are a varied collection of engagingly written crime dramas.

The titular character was Jack Klugman's career defining role, as the hyperactive L.A. coroner who when he gets his teeth into a case, never lets go. Often with a mischievous disregard for regulations, Quincy frequently finds himself at loggerheads with his boss, Dr Robert Asten (John S. Ragin) and often takes the lead in the police investigations headed by the LAPD's Lieutenant Frank Monahan (Garry Walberg) while always backed to the hilt by his lab assistant & good friend, Sam Fujiyama (Robert Ito).

With many cases appearing "open & shut", the determined Dr Quincy chips away until finally revealing the truth. With an occasional dash of humour, sometimes the dialogue errs on the side of cheesy but this only gives the show an extra warmth & all the performances are good. Even without the nostalgia angle, the series still looks and feels good - a great trip down memory lane!
