5.0 out of 5 stars Beware of Class of SDHC Memory Cards you buy., 14 April 2011
This review is from: Kodak PlaySport Zx5 Full HD 1080P, Waterproof, Dustproof and Shockproof - Black (Electronics)
Fantastic Video Camera but does not work with Class 10 SDHC Memory Cards. After frustrating time on the Phone to Kodak they admitted that it does not work with Class 10 SDHC Cards. Firmware upgrade may resolve this issue later when its available. Their documentation states Class 4 or higher, in the enclosed documentation and on their website, as class 10 is higher than class 4 I assumed that it would be OK. But evidently not. Kodak say that it will work with Class 6 and 8 with no known issues. Thought I would play safe and have purchased 2 off 16G Class 4 Cards and they work fine. Each card gives just over 2.5 hrs of 1080p video. Great little Video Camera but just be aware of the SDHC Card issues mentioned.

What was the Issue you had with Class 10 memorycards? I have a 16GB Class 10 card and am having some issues whereby if I zoom in/out there is a white flicker and bands/lines appear on the screen; and the flicker is on the video on the memorycard too ruining it....
I bought a Class 10 due to Kodak saying Class 4 or higher... I am now wondering if the white flicker issue I have may be down to that incompatibility or whether this is an issue with this new product.

The issue with class 10 memory cards is probably the same as with Canon camcorders.. the firmware doesn't recognize class 10 because it only reads one digit ie it reads class 10 as class 1. Class 6 memory cards should be fine anyway

If it was on the Playsport ZX5 as mine is, it would not recognise the card at all. Apparently the firware hasn't been written for the Class 10 cards on the market now. The Tech guy at Kodak did say that it would work upto class 8 but I haven't tried it, thought I would play safe and stick with class 4. He did mention that there is now a firmware upgrade on their website for the zx5. Good Luck

Just got back off holiday and the camera got some excellent footage underwater on a shallow coral reef. BUT. The rubberised coating on the camera is strating to peel off and the doors for access to the connections and memory card are very difficult to open. The camera did not go any deeper than @ 2feet as it was a very shallow reef. We did look after the camera on holiday by washing it in clean water after every use and wrapping it in a face cloth to dry it. It is going back to Kodak for repair/replacement. I will post how we get on with their repair service.

Justt got back fro Mexico with my replacement ZX5 after it had been replaced by Kodak because of the siezed doors and rubberised coating issed to find that the replacement camera had done the same. To make matters worse the doors seized half way through the holiday so once the camera was needing a charge I could not do it. Spent $50 each way in a Taxi to take it to a "Kodak" Specialist in Playa Del Carmen only to find they could not do anything with it. Emailed Kodak who want to send me another Camera (camera Number 3). If you intend to use this camera in water be aware that the door catches will corrode thus rendering the camera useless. Camera provides excellent footage with good clarity but the product should be used in water with caution as you run the risk of not being able to get the card out or charge the thing. My advice - look else where. I don't think the ZX5 is good enough for what the manufacturers say - water proof it may be but the catches corrode. Once you are out of the warrenty period you will be left with a worthless piece of electronics. Not a happy lady as we have had 2 holidays spoit by not being able to use the Camera. On another note Kodak Tech Support is very difficult to get hold of by Telephone. Email is the only option. Not impressed with Kodak at all. Took the camera back to where it was purchased from and got prompt refund with appology. Thank You Mr Currys.

One day at the beach and the door latches are totally frozen. Was careful to rinse in fresh water.....did not make a difference. This is a very serious manufacturing problem. Lot of reports of similar door latch problems. This is my second, screen on first one failed two hours out of the box! Cannot recommend this product!
