I love Italian pasta dishes but I was getting bored with the repertoire we had and needed some new ideas. I did buy a small pasta book before but only made one recipe out of it and was disappointed when I examined the recipes in detail - they were more American than Italian it seemed to me. Anyway, having looked through a few other pasta books, and not wanting another big glossy tome with more lifestyle photos than recipes, I was delighted to find this. The recipes are beautiful, simple for the most part and very effective. Also, while they include instructions on making fresh pasta they don't focus unduly on this like some other books do, recognising that dried pasta has its well-deserved and time-honoured place in the kitchen! Though I have salivated over nearly all of the recipes, so far I have only made two but both were easy and very tasty (penne with sausage and ricotta and orechiette with broccoli and pancetta). Also, many of the recipes are extremely quick to make which is perfect for two working parents who survive mainly on one-pot meals that can be cooked ahead. Sometimes you just want pasta and not always with bolognese! A simple, helpful, classy and compact little book.
